SUMMARY:Office Hours with Sam English
DESCRIPTION:Raising capital from pre‑seed to Series A is harder than ever\, but founders don’t have to navigate it alone. Sam will be hosting office hours at NextGEN to dig into funding strategy\, investor readiness\, and how to align a startup with the right capital sources. He’ll break down the major pathways\, angels\, seed funds\, venture\, and grants\, and what it takes to position a company for each. Entrepreneurs and founders are invited to bring their questions about angels\, funds\, and non‑dilutive capital. \nSam brings 25 years of experience in the trenches of tech commercialization and early‑stage investing\, building companies\, backing founders\, and strengthening the ecosystems that help them grow. He co-founded and led four tech startups\, oversaw due diligence for pre-seed and seed investments\, helped launch a 100-member angel group\, and helped establish a new accelerator program and facility. As a founder and advisor\, he has raised over $8M in angel capital\, helped structure capital vehicles ranging from a $12M regional investment fund to multimillion-dollar grant and equity programs. He has advised more than 15 startups and mentored dozens of founders. Currently\, he runs the VMS mentoring program at NextGEN. \nSign up for a time slot: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Wwl9TMiKPMGh5tHXowFM-DVVHJmqV2YIBCuRzRyaCus/edit?usp=sharing

SUMMARY:Innovation Exchange

SUMMARY:Science Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Topic: “Own the Shift: From Concept to Reality in Business and Career” \nIn today’s environment\, career paths and businesses are no longer linear: they are shaped through intentional pivots\, experimentation\, and ownership. This session explores how women in organizations and in business can move from idea to execution while simultaneously redefining their professional identity. Through a short speech and guided discussion\, participants will reflect on what it truly takes to “own the shift” and turn uncertainty into momentum. \nThe session will be facilitated by Anastasia Mizitova\, SCP\, PCC\, CEO of Talent14\, global speaker\, and author of Your Career Your Way. She has built and leads global business initiatives\, serves as SHRM faculty\, and previously served on the SHRM Board at HRVA. Anastasia is also an executive coach with Blanchard\, bringing a practical\, real-world perspective on career growth\, leadership\, and transformation. \nQuestions for discussion: \n– What shift are you currently navigating in your career or business — and what makes it challenging to fully own it? \n– Think of a time when you successfully moved an idea forward. What specifically helped you turn that concept into action? \n– Who are the 2–3 types of people or connections that make the biggest difference when bringing an idea to life? \n– How do you know when it’s time to pivot your business idea?

SUMMARY:Fix My Pitch Kickoff Event
DESCRIPTION:Great companies don’t always have great pitches. And that’s not a failure. It’s a skills gap. \nPitching is a craft. It can be learned\, refined\, and rebuilt. Founders shouldn’t have to figure it out alone\, and creatives want real problems to solve\, not hypothetical briefs. \nFix My Pitch brings those two worlds together. \nThis kickoff event is a fun\, low-pressure way to gather the startup and creative communities in one room. You’ll meet other founders\, designers\, storytellers\, and strategists\, and learn how the Fix My Pitch program works. \nWhether your pitch needs a second draft or you’re someone who loves helping ideas come to life through storytelling and design\, this night is about connection\, collaboration\, and making strong ideas easier to understand.

SUMMARY:Learn to Code with AI and Sports
DESCRIPTION:If you love sports and want to learn how coding works in the real world\, this class is the perfect place to start. You’ll learn Python by analyzing the statistics of your favorite sport\, whether that’s football\, basketball\, baseball\, volleyball\, tennis\, or anything else you follow. Each week you’ll write simple programs that turn real data into charts\, comparisons\, and insights\, giving you a fun and practical introduction to programming and data analytics. \nThe class is designed for high school students but is open to anyone ages 13 and up\, including adults who want a more engaging way to learn to code. No previous experience is needed\, and students only need a laptop (Mac or PC). \nHomeschool students who take this class along with Learn to Code with AI and Entertainment\, in addition to either Build Your First App or Build Your First Game\, can count the combination as a full credit of high school computer science. A syllabus is available for that purpose; contact us to request a copy before the class begins.
