Avelo Airlines Adds Non-stop Flights from Boston to GSP

Flights will begin in May 2024 and make routes twice-weekly

It’s ’bout to get wicked easier to snag your chowdah, lobstah, and catch a glimpse of the Green Monstah.

Avelo Airlines announced this week they will service non-stop flights between Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) beginning in May.

How d’ya like them apples, huh?

Flights to MHT will operate on Mondays and Fridays. Those are both arrivals and The Departed.

Avelo, a low-fare airline headquartered in Houston, TX, began service to GSP in June 2023 with flights to New Haven, CT and Rochester, NY. They are the second airline this year to announce additional service to GSP. In January, Breeze Airways announced non-stop service from GSP to five major U.S. hubs: Los Angeles, Orlando, Tampa, Hartford and Providence. Those flights will also begin in May.

“Greater accessibility and air service connections benefit tourism, broader economic development, and our local residents’ quality of life,” said Heath Dillard, President and CEO of VisitGreenvilleSC. “These new nonstop GSP flights will propel economic growth and bring intangible benefits that help elevate the Greenville community and the entire Upstate region.”

The connection to Boston is particularly significant for the life sciences and biotech industries in Greenville. The Boston area is widely regarded as the top biotech hub in the world, with a high concentration of companies and research universities. For South Carolina, life sciences are the state’s fastest-growing industry, accounting for annual economic impact of $25 billion.

Greenville has a strong life sciences ecosystem, with companies like Kiyatec, ChartSpan, Rymedi, and Zylö Therapeutics to name a few.

“This addition, along with the direct flight to Charleston, will spur the advancements and economic impact of the life sciences industry in South Carolina,” said SCbio President and CEO James Chappell. “Direct access to Greenville, where we already have a growing life sciences industry and readily available lab space at Main Street labs, is another competitive advantage for businesses looking to call South Carolina home.”

In January, SCbio – a statewide, non-profit economic development organization tasked with building the state’s life science industry – announced a partnership with the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio). The partnership, named SCbioEdge, will help connect SCbio members with vendors and suppliers and is expected to save South Carolina companies millions of dollars each year.

NextGEN’s New Fix My Pitch Program

Every startup has a pitch. But not every pitch is actually working.
Too often, founders are walking around with a deck or a one liner that explains what they do, but does not land, connect, or clearly communicate the value of what they are building. That is the gap NextGEN’s brand new Fix My Pitch program is designed to address.
